Welcome to the web page of the Elim Christian Centre, Glossop, Derbyshire, U.K.

During the month of May, the Christian Church will be celebrating one of the most important events on the Church calendar. Perhaps the two best known Christian festivals are Christmas and Easter, but on the 15th of May, Christians all over the world will be marking The Day of Pentecost.

Jesus had spent three years in training and mentoring His disciples, showing them how to minister with authority and conviction, but also great compassion. The time would come when Jesus would die on the cross and rise again on that first Easter Sunday. Following His resurrection, Jesus would meet with His disciples in order to prepare them for the task of preaching the gospel. They would not undertake this in their own strength, but through the enabling and empowering of the Holy Spirit.

On that first Pentecost Sunday, the disciples were gathered together in the Upper Room in Jerusalem, when ‘Suddenly’ the power of the Holy Spirit came upon them enabling them to speak with great power and conviction on the streets of Jerusalem. The Church was birthed, and by the end of that first Pentecost Sunday, 3,000 people had come to faith in Jesus Christ, and the Church as we know it was launched.

In the week leading up to Pentecost Sunday; the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have called the Anglican Church to hold a week of prayer under the banner; ‘THE KINGDOM COME’. Many other Church groups and streams including the Elim Pentecostal Churches are joining together in this great call to prayer. The focus of this prayer initiative is a call to pray for spiritual renewal in our individual lives, but also in the life and ministry of the wider Church here in the U.K.. Our prayer must be;
‘THY KINGDOM COME’.
